HC+800, hopefully they are great for a DD with the monthly/bimonthly autocross and a track day once or twice a year.

I've always wondered about Project Mu pads. They are just too damn expensive from where I've found them. Please report back as to how they perform once you get them. And you should do your bedding in of the pads at night with someone recording the sparks fly out of your wheels. . .

Maybe this is just for one caliper but for the fronts they are 134 dollar . For the fronts and rears it would be 250 bucks, which isn't too bad.

From looking around, the pads will squeal a bit for road use when not warmed up, but hold up very well on a track(fad starts near the end of sessions). There is dust too, but that can be cleaned off.

Oh and thanks for the bedding tip, shall be fun.

Check out what carbotech offers, I know the Miata guys love them and I plan on picking some up. I know there are a few different compounds out there, but I wouldn't change to any aggressive pad now while it is still cold enough to freeze your balls off. . .

But I still kinda want the pretty teal color of Project Mu pads in my calipers.

I am not planning on changing them now at all. I am just planning ahead, just so I can be excited.. Although, I am asking for some brake fluid. Maybe my parents can get me some for my birthday.

Also, what carbotechs would you recommend. Don't mind if they squeal a bit on the street, just as long as they work well in low temps and don't fade to much after hard braking.

The AX 6 is their autox pad that works well for DD and autox use but will fade with track usage, the XP8 is a good starting track pad but they say not to run them on the street but people do with no issues other than dust and noise. I'd go for XP8 if you plan track time, but there is a huge trade off with dust and noise and it isn't worth that if your car is 97% street driven and not tracked or autoxed.

here is a link to 949 Racing which sells the Carbotech pads. Not super cheap but at ~$130 per axle for some damn good pads is much better than some of the prices for track pads that I've seen.

Do they say they squeak?

I run AX6 on my NA. I like them for the most part, it just seems like they have to heat up a bit to actually work all the way

As all good pads should. The AX6 will probably be my next set of pads which may be coming up soon, I need to check my brake pads for wear now that I think about it. . .

Thanks for your reply.

A friend has them on his S2000 race car. They are really noisy when cold (like most race pads).

Most of my time will be spent on the street and autocrossing. I might track the car once a year or something because track time is expensive.

And 130 bucks isn't bad at all. I will keep the in mind.

From what I have read they squeak after some track time/autocrossing.

Good choice—on an NA I presume?

Braking in daily driving feels kind of like my old OEM pads during the end of their life, aka pretty poor. Probably not enough heat happening. But when I'm attacking corners and they've gotten some time to warm up they're crazy good. Light braking feel like any other but when you push the pedal down further, that's where the big difference is. Gobs more stopping power than before.

They're certainly squeaky which pleases me (sounds like a race car) and I've been told they spark quite a lot.

I almost opted for XP8 but decided to dial it back—you don't want your braking ability to exceed your grip. Once I upgrade to some sticky 205's and possibly start tracking the car I'll look at XP8's again.

I'm riding around in a 99 with the cloth seats and shmancy Nardi wheel equipped with the LSD, or it should be but I haven't done the doughnut test yet. . .

I learned with my last car not to have brakes that exceed the tires grip. It made me sad learning that lesson. . . I don't really plan on tracking my car so the XP8's would be lost on me but I do like to have a good brake pad to haul me down when I need it in the twisties. I really don't mind squeaky brakes because I know they are working and from what I've read about the Carbotechs they are pretty easy going on rotors and don't chew them up too badly. Plus I really want to have an excuse to go shoot sparks from all four corners of my car. . .

Yeah the nice thing about Carbotech is that the dust isn't corrosive.

I'll have to see how long these pads last, only had them on for 1 or 2 thousand so far

I've only had my car for about 10 months so far and have only put about 7,000 miles on it. . . I'm pretty sure the only negatives I've heard about the Carbotech pads were from the hardcore track rats and autox guys working their way up the product line. Plus they are reasonably priced compared to the performance v. wear spectrum. I like the fact that they are easier on rotors and you end up saving the albeit minuscule amount that Miata rotors cost instead of having to a monkey at a parts store machine rotors or buy new rotors every pad change like my last car.

All I can really say is that Miatas are addictive. . .
